Te Hono – New Plymouth Airport Terminal Building has been chosen as one of six Airports worldwide to compete in the prestigious Prix Versailles World Architecture and Design Award Finale, with the winners being announced in late November at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Selections are made due to their intersection between creation, art, economics and pay tribute to the reflection of local, natural and cultural heritage. We are extremely proud to be the first airport ever nominated in New Zealand.
Te Hono will be up against some world class airports, Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt, Berlin Germany, Athens International Airport, South Wing, Athens Greece, Hazrat Sultan International Airport, Turkistan, Kazakhstan, Clark International Airport, Pampanga Philippines and LaGuardia Airport, Terminal B New York, United States.
This nomination comes after a successful year of recognition from various awards and nominations. In November last year New Plymouth Airport were awarded gold in the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Design – Toitango Award, the biggest in Australasia. The airport was also a finalist in the Spatial Design Communication category which reflected how a project used its allocated space to create a tone and vibe while also acknowledges the tools, processes and efforts required to bring it to fruition. This month the Airport was given a highly commended at the Local Government New Zealand Excellence Awards for Cultural Well-being.
