A new accommodation block for the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter crews has officially arrived at New Plymouth Airport, marking a significant step forward in the Trust’s upcoming relocation to the airport. The 122m² building valued at over half a million dollars and built by Manor Build and was carefully transported from Breakwater this month. Trust chair Evan Cottam said the move symbolises “tangible evidence that we’re on the move,” as the organisation prepares to transition from its current location at Taranaki Base Hospital to the airport in May next year.
The new facility will provide a comfortable “home away from home” for the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust’s 24/7 crews, featuring six bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry, and living space for visiting engineers and relief staff. Once complete, the adjacent hangar will be fitted with a medical room, training winch, and preparation area for emergency responses.
